The NPA is principally organized around three tiers:
The General assembly which is made up of all members; Two zones(Eastern and Western Zones); A National Executive Committee, which consists of the President, Vice-President, Secretary-General, Assistant Secretary-General, Treasurer, Financial Secretary and two Ex-officio members one in charge of public relations and the other the immediate past president.

CONSTITUTION OF THE NIGERIAN PHILOSOPHICAL ASSOCIATION

Article 1
Main Objectives:
1. To promote active association among all those who are involved in philosophical research and training in Nigeria and promote the cause of philosophical education in the country.
1.2 To collaborate with associations of a similar nature in promoting common objectives.
1.3 To help in maintaining professional standards in research, teaching and other related activities.
Article 2
Membership
2.1 Membership is open to all persons involved in philosophical research and training in Nigeria regardless of their institutional affiliations.
2.2 Philosophy graduate and other graduates, who are interested in philosophical inquiry, may become Associated Members.
2.3 Individuals may become supporters of the NPA. The Executive Committee will accept or refuse any application to become an annual or life supporter on payment of the relevant fee.
2.4 For effective organization of its activities, the Nigerian Philosophical Association shall be organized into Zones on geographical basis, starting with the following two zones:
1. Western zone, comprising of the University of Lagos, Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo, Adekunle Ajasin, Ado-Ekiti, Benin, Ambrose Alli, SS Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Dominican Institute, All Saint Seminary Ekpoma, LASU, Olabisi Onabanjo, Ondo State University, Covenant University
2. Eastern zone, comprising of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Port-Harcourt, UNIPORT, UNICAL, UNIUyo, BENSU, Saint Thomas Aquinas Seminary Makurdi, Seat of Wisdom Owerri, Bigard Memorial Seminary Enugu, IMSU, FUTO, Claretian NEKEDE, Pope John Paul II Seminary Awka, NAU, NDU, KSU, RUST, Ebonyi State University, St. Joseph’s Major Seminary, Ikot Ekpene.
2.5 Every member of the Association shall pay a membership fee of N2000.00 (Two thousand naira) per academic year. Out of this N500.00 (Five hundred naira) shall be remitted to the zonal bodies for their activities. The remainder shall be retained by the national body for its activities, including the funding of a journal of the Nigerian Philosophical Association; or otherwise as approved by the General meeting of the NPA.
Article 3
General Meeting 3.1 The General Meeting of the Nigerian Philosophical Association shall be made up of the Executive Committee and all fee paying members of the association.
3.2 The General Meeting shall be the policy-making and controlling body of the NPA, this includes the formulation and enforcement of a code of conduct for its members.
3.3 The Executive Committee shall call a General Meeting once in two years and shall specify the meeting as such in the notices calling it.
3.4 At least 60 days notice of the General Meeting shall be given to all members. Members may submit items for discussion or resolution to the Executive Committee, to be received 30 days before the date of the General Meeting.
3.5 An Emergency General Meeting may be called at a shorter notice by the National Executive Committee.
3.6. The General Meeting shall be chaired by the President of the Association or by the Vice-President in the absence of the President, or by any person appointed by the General Meeting in the absence of both.
3.7 A full member shall be entitled to only one vote at the General Meeting.
Article 4
The Executive Committee
4.1 There shall be a National Executive Committee of the Association which shall comprise the President, the Vice-President, the General Secretary, Asst. General Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, 2 ex-officio members (1 from each zone, namely the chairman of the zone).
4.2 In addition to this, each zone shall have its own Executive Committee comprising of representatives of each department in each of the zones from whom its officers shall be elected. These offices shall include The Chairman, The Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary and 2 Ex-Officio Members.
4.3 The National Executive Committee shall be responsible for managing the Association in accordance with the directives of the General Meeting.
4.4 The term of office of the National Executive committee shall be 4 years. The same applies to the zonal representatives and the zonal executive committee members.
4.5 All full members have the right to nominate individuals to positions on the Executive Committees at the National and Zonal levels.
4.6 The National Executive Committee shall meet at least once a year to discuss current business. The quorum shall be half the membership of the Executive Committee. The same applies to the zonal executive committees.
Article 5
Activities of the Association
5.1 Each zone shall organize academic conferences as regularly as possible, while the national body of the association shall organize conferences/symposia/workshops once in two years.
5.2 The Association shall publish a journal
5.3 The Association shall publish and circulate a newsletter.
5.4 The Association shall publish the proceedings of its national conferences
Article 6
Amendments
6.1 The General Meeting can lay down, amend or revoke a provision of this constitution by a two-thirds majority of accredited members present.
Article 7
Election Matters
7.1 Each officer of the Association shall serve a maximum of 2 consecutive terms on a post.
7.2 Elections to all the posts of NPA shall be by simple majority of accredited members present.
7.3 Appointment of returning officers: members shall nominate two electoral officers whose nomination shall be approved by the members through a vote by a simple majority presided over by the President.
7.4 In the case of inconclusive results, the returning officers should vote.
7.5 Declaration of vacancies shall be as at when due by the Secretary General.
Article 8
Termination of Membership
8.1 Membership shall be terminated on grounds of a grievous breach of code of conduct.
8.2 Membership would lapse on non-payment of fees for two consecutive years.
Article 9
Bank Account and Signatories
9.1 The NPA shall maintain a bank account in a reputable bank.
9.2 The signatories to the account are: the Treasurer in addition to the President or the Vice-President.
